Facelift
One of the most obvious signs of aging is the gradual sagging and wrinkling of the face. Skin loses its firmness and elasticity, and environmental factors cause general deterioration. Dr. Toohey can reduce the appearance of aging in the lower two-thirds of the face by performing a facelift. (See photos)
Through incisions placed around the ear and within the hairline, excess skin and underlying tissue can be removed and the remaining skin and tissue gently smoothed and tightened. Dr. Toohey’s skill and experience can leave your face looking years younger, without looking unnaturally taut. (See photos)
Brow Lift
A sagging, furrowed forehead can make a person look angry, sinister, or just tired. A brow lift from Dr. Toohey can do for the forehead what a facelift does for the lower two-thirds of the face: restore a youthful, rested appearance. Depending on the individual circumstances, Dr. Toohey usually performs an endoscopic brow lift, which rejuvenates the appearance without resulting in a surprised look to the face. (See photos)
In a standard brow lift, an incision is made at the hairline and excess skin and underlying tissue is removed. The remaining skin is gently pulled upward and sutured, resulting in a flat, smooth surface.
In other cases of wrinkling and sagging, Dr. Toohey may perform an endoscopic brow lift, in which tiny incisions are made in the skin, through which tissue is lifted, tightened, and fastened into place. Smoothing the underlying tissue allows the skin above to smooth out, and the healing time from this procedure is much shorter than with a standard brow lift; suspension is the key. (See photos)
Blepharoplasty
Wrinkling and sagging in the area around the eyes can add years to a person’s appearance and even impair vision. Puffiness or sagging below the eyes can make a person look old and tired. The same is true of the eyelids, which can also droop enough to partially block the field of vision. Blepharoplasty is the general term for procedures performed in the area around the eyes to correct these problems.
To reduce puffiness and sagging under the eyes, Dr. Toohey can remove excess skin and fat. To restore a youthful, rested appearance to the eyelid, an incision can be made in the crease above the eye. Once excess skin has been removed, the eyelid will also be tighter and smoother, keeping it well clear of the field of vision.
In rare cases in which drooping eyelids are the cause of significant loss of vision, eyelid surgery may be covered by health insurance, but only if prescribed by an ophthalmologist.
Rhinoplasty
Nose refinement surgery, or rhinoplasty, is one of the most common plastic surgery procedures. Many people feel their nose is not in proportion to the rest of their facial profile. It may be too large, too flat, a bit crooked, or have a prominent tip.
No matter what it is about your nose that you feel needs correction, Dr. Toohey can discuss the issue with you and, drawing on his years of experience, help you select the rhinoplasty procedure that best suits your needs.
Otoplasty
Ears that are noticeably larger than average or protrude from the side of the head can distract from the rest of a person’s appearance and be a source of embarrassment. This is especially true for children, who are often teased to the point of emotional distress. Dr. Toohey can skillfully perform ear refinement, also known as otoplasty, to reduce the size of the ear or to reduce the angle of protrusion.
Otoplasty is usually performed on children only after they reach the age of 14, the age at which the permanent size and shape of the ear is usually established. Individual cases may vary, so please schedule a consultation with Dr. Toohey to help determine which otoplasty treatment is appropriate for your child.
Facial Implants
Dr. Toohey can provide facial implants for those who feel that their face is lacking in definition. Many people, especially men, choose a chin implant to compensate for a disproportionately small chin, often perceived as a “weak” chin. The chin implant enhances what is usually perceived as a masculine image. Cheek implants are more popular with women, who often feel the appearance of higher cheekbones conveys a more feminine image.
Facial implants are made of modern, flexible inert materials to ensure safety and a natural appearance. Dr. Toohey has the experience and artistic ability to help you select the degree of enhancement that will best improve your facial profile and oblique views.
Facial Skin Resurfacing
Modern laser technology in the skilled hands of an experienced practitioner has raised facial skin resurfacing to a new level. Using a laser, Dr. Toohey can vaporize a host of imperfections, including fine lines and wrinkles and scarring caused by acne or overexposure to the sun. The laser is also effective in eliminating areas of uneven skin color. During a personal consultation, Dr. Toohey will tell you how laser facial resurfacing can be used to deal with your specific needs and leave you with a smooth, even, healthy-looking face.
Injectable Facial Treatments
Dr. Toohey can provide a number of popular injectable treatments that offer a minimally invasive way to achieve smoother, younger-looking skin. These treatments include BOTOX® Cosmetic, collagen, RESTYLANE®, and fat transfers.
BOTOX® Cosmetic is one of the best-known injectables. It is a protein that blocks nerve signals to muscles that contract the skin to form wrinkles. It is especially effective on forehead wrinkles and crow’s feet, relaxing them away.
Collagen is a substance that forms a supportive network just below the surface of the skin. As it is lost over time, the skin sags and wrinkles. Dr. Toohey can provide injections of new collagen to temporarily replace the old and lift the skin from below, smoothing out lines and wrinkles.
RESTYLANE® is an inert gel that can be injected under the skin to plump up and fill in wrinkles. It is made from a naturally occurring chemical substance and is non-allergenic.
Fat transfer is another method of filling in lines, wrinkles, and hollow areas of the face. As we age, healthy fat under the facial skin dissipates. In some areas, it causes sagging, which leads to lines and wrinkles. In other areas, although the skin may still be smooth, fullness is lost, leading to a sunken look. Injecting fat taken from other parts of the body can fill in and smooth the face, taking years off your appearance.
None of the treatments listed above is a permanent solution. The body eventually absorbs the materials used. Dr. Toohey can tell you which treatment is most appropriate to your individual needs. He can tell you how long to expect the treatments to last and how frequently they can be repeated, designing a truly customized plan to help you look your best.
